VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
Provider Volunteers are asked to donate 3 hours of their time at least once a month to seeing patients referred to the service by the other providers at the Family Community Clinic.

Unfortunately, the clinic is not equipped to see patients who have severe, persistent mental illness, substance abuse addiction, or who are court-ordered for treatment. The facility is not equipped with an emergency crisis service and providers may change over time. We are happy to provide referrals to other services for those specific situations.
Expression of the Need
1. The University Hospital Ambulatory Psychiatric Clinic which often treated patients for free was closed in 2015 for financial reasons. The clinic had been in operation at that location for 35 years, and many years before that it was at Louisville General Hospital.
2. Centerstone, formerly Seven Counties Services, our taxpayer supported community health system, sees patients who have some form of insurance or who can pay for their fee arranagement. Funds for any indigent care are very limited.
3. In the current political climate, there will be a further decline in Medicaid and other available insurance. This will make an already difficult situation much worse for many people.
4. There is no place for the working poor to go for multi-disciplinary mental health treatment. It is essentially unavailable.
PREMISE
Using a biospychosocialspiritual approach, importance is given not just to biological needs but psychological, social, and spiritual needs also. A collaborative model of integrative care with a multi-disciplinary staff will be utilized. No fees will be charged.

Premier mental health organizations within the Commonwealth of Kentucky will have members on our Advisory Board with Mental Health America of Kentucky being the agent of record. Other members may be affiliated with the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Louisville, Kentucky Psychiatric Medical Association, Kentucky branch of the National Association of Psychiatric Nurses, Kentucky Psychological Association, the Wayne Oates Institute and the local branch of the National Association of Social Workers. Also included will be a representative of Family Community Clinic.

The setting will be Family Community Inc at 1406 East Washington Street, Louisville KY which will provide professional liability insurance coverage for approved volunteers. Their newly renovated space connect to St. Joseph Catholic Church will be open by September 2019 and patients will be seen starting in Fall 2019.

Meetings are underway with Family Community Clinic to establish a working relationship, looking at collaborative care model options.
STAFF
All participating staff will be volunteers who are unpaid. Clinical staff will be provided professional liability insurance and have responsibility for patients they see with the exception of an emergency call. Criteria for staff will include at least several years of clinical experience, and be a respected professional in the community. They will have a good knowledge base and show caring and empathy. They will be able to set limits and work with patients in a goal-directed way, and collaborate well not only with patients but with other staff. Team meetings will evolve as will the Clinic. The design of the clinic will promote an enjoyable experience for the staff.
